Kōs Lō Ner (/koːs/ /loː/ [immune] [romance]) is a temperate Town located in the Fövnëbës Moot of the Viceroyalty of Rosid.

The name Kōs Lō Ner is derived from the Wood Elvish language, as Kōs Lō Ner was founded by Synfelis Phomageet, who was culturaly Wood Elven.

Climate

Kōs Lō Ner has a yearly average temperature of 6°C (42°F), with its average temperature during the summer being an icy 26°C (78°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cold -13°C (9°F). Kōs Lō Ner receives an average of 150 cm/y (59 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of snow during the pleasantly short winter months. Kōs Lō Ner covers an area of nearly 5 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 4314 m (14153 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Kōs Lō Ner was founded durring the early 15th century in fall of the year 1443, by Synfelis Phomageet. The establishment of Kōs Lō Ner was somewhat plagued by a lack of willing colonists, leading to Synfelis Phomageet electing to pay people to resettle in Kōs Lō Ner.

Kōs Lō Ner was built using the conventions of Wood Elven durring the early 15th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Kōs Lō Ner is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature delicute timber framework hidden behind layer upon layer of finly ground plaster bleached to an almost glossy white sheen, with green clay tiled roofs and decorative brass-leafed trim. Even the smallest, poorest looking structures appear to be expencive thanks to the extreem elegence of the organic shapes and paterns going into their lofty, spire-y, vagly gothic designs. The more well off folks live in identicle homes, save for even shiner trim and a more whimsical appearance to their structures flowing forms.

Kōs Lō Ner is buildings are arranged within a network of narrow carved bedrock streets which form a rectangular grid, where each block verries in size given the proximity of the paralell streets forming each section. The ocasional smaller block has been used to construct a park, plaza, and other communal structures. The town sits behind an impressive looking clay brick wall. The wall is notable for querried stone blocks being used to renforce the clay bricks in the expected manner and locations. While the wall was built to the exact specifications of modern fortifications, one has to wonder why the money invested into creating such a well fortified wall wasnt spent on a less impressive looking wall crated from sturdier materials. Kōs Lō Ner's walls would endure a brief bombardment, but only from light siege weapons. It seems more likly the town's walls were not designed with defence in mind but rather lending the town a certain air with visitors. Kōs Lō Ner's boondoggle-of-a-fortified wall has sufferd soem light damage, reducing its function a little in some spots, but could almsot certainly preform as expected... Though some of the worse spots could lead to the loss of defenders lives if attackers identified the weaknesses ahead of time.

A quick look in any direction shows Kōs Lō Ner is filled with vices. There are many taverns, brothels are advertising their services on the streets, cardsharks are plying their illicit trade within public squairs, and every shop has at least three signs advertising various sales on goods. That alone wouldn’t be too noticeable, if it wasn’t just so omnipresent and overwhelmingly how the people of this town live.

Civic Infrastructure

Kōs Lō Ner has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Kōs Lō Ner.

Kōs Lō Ner has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Kōs Lō Ner has a Department of Firefighters, which is responsible for organizing fire fighting efforts during a fire and enforcing local ordinances relating to fire safety.

Kōs Lō Ner has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Kōs Lō Ner has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Kōs Lō Ner's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Cultural Notes

There’s more than one leader in Kōs Lō Ner, but at least some of them are at each other’s throats. It might be a conflict between formal leadership and informal authorities, or it could be a struggle among civil officials. Their interests might diverge sharply, or it could be a personal grudge that’s boiled over. Outside threats and internal problems are likely being ignored until the power struggle is resolved.

Kōs Lō Ner's mayor's house was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used makes use of a large oblong hall or building with double colonnades and a semicircular apse and symmetrical central-plan, resulting in buildings with a square central mass and four arms of equal length. Decorative features included domed rooves, arches, soaring spaces, and sumptuous decoration: marble columns and inlay, mosaics on the vaults, inlaid-stone pavements, and sometimes gold coffered ceilings.

In Kōs Lō Ner the milk never sours.

The Zoog near Kōs Lō Ner are known to be a mutant strain of the creature.

Kōs Lō Ner's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves square dance to channel Illusion energies of tier 3 via mimery.

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century, Kōs Lō Ner was attacked by a group of guerrilla fighters. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Kōs Lō Ner lost 153 people, 270 livestock, and 28 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 79, when members of Kōs Lō Ner's militia enacted an operation to eliminate a specific group of the enemy's forces. The operation was complicated by the enemy forces had far more numbers than estimated. The conflict ended with the defense of the settlment against a siege, which ended in a crushing defeat for Kōs Lō Ner's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Kōs Lō Ner's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
